The second of two CDs containing a sampling of the many great pianists who recorded for Blue Note and its related labels, this program has performances from a dozen masters (Duke Ellington, Herbie Nichols, Cecil Taylor, Sonny Clark, Bill Evans, Herbie Hancock, Chick Corea, Michel Petruccianni, Benny Green, McCoy Tyner, Don Pullen and Andrew Hill).with three recordings from the 1950s, four dating from the '60s and five from 1987-90, after Blue Note's rebirth. Overall these two sets gives one a strong (if not really complete) sampling into the music of some of the great jazz pianists. — Scott Yanow
